CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES, BEST PRACTICES, METHODS AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE SMALL FARMER COMMUNITIES TOWARDS ACHIEVING THE MANDATE OF REDUCING IMPORTS BY 25% BY THE YEAR 2025.
Neil Gomes is a crop producer and owner of Anointed Farm in the Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda. He has actively been in vegetable production for the past 25 years. Neil believes providing fresh, healthy food for the country and regional neighbours is an ideal way of strengthening any society. In addition to managing a farming business, he currently serves as the Vice President of Team Fresh Produce Co-operative, a member of AACARI (Agricultural Alliance of the Caribbean) and as a Director, Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development Center (NGO). Mr. Gomes has been awarded the title “Farmer of the Year” and has always been ranked as one of the top ten farmers in his country. He has completed the CARIFORUM food safety risk analysis training program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has completed his Bachelor’s Degree studies in Theology at the Christian Bible Institute & Seminary. Mr. Gomes has devoted himself to assisting students in his country by making his farm available for field trips and demonstration training.
